When a disease is new, there is no vaccine until one is developed. It can take a number of years for a new vaccine to be developed.
Is coronavirus a disease?
Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus.
How can you prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease?
Plan and Prepare. Frequently wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not readily available use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or use the inside of your elbow. Clean frequently touched objects and surfaces. Stay home when sick.
Are there any special cleaning protocols or recommendations for the coronavirus disease?
No. Standard cleaning with common household disinfectants (such as Clorox wipes) should be sufficient. As is recommended each year during cold and flu season, be sure to clean high touch areas (e.g. doorknobs, telephones, remote controls, and bathroom surfaces) regularly.
What is the risk of my child becoming sick with the coronavirus disease?
Based on available evidence, children do not appear to be at higher risk for COVID-19 than adults. While some children and infants have been sick with COVID-19, adults make up most of the known cases to date.
